2026 Race Rules

Challenge Vieux Boucau is a timed event organised around the marine lake and the Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains area.

The Kids Duathlon is offered in two age categories: 6-9 years and 10-13 years, with age-appropriate distances.

The races are open to both licensed and non-licensed participants, subject to compliance with the age requirements and regulations applicable to the selected distance.

Each participant must be physically prepared for the race they enter and have the necessary level of self-sufficiency to complete the course.

Registrations are completed exclusively online through the official Challenge Vieux Boucau website. Registration becomes final once payment and the participant file have been validated.

Participants must provide the required supporting documents according to their sporting status and category.

FFTRI Licence Expérience

The FFTRI Licence Expérience is mandatory for participants who do not hold an FFTRI licence allowing them to take part in the relevant race.

This requirement also applies to participants holding a foreign licence.

The participant file must be complete before taking part in the race.

Any cancellation request must comply with the conditions and deadlines communicated by the organiser for the 2026 edition.

  • Middle Distance: €25 cancellation fee
  • Olympic: €15 cancellation fee
  • Sprint: €10 cancellation fee

Transferring or reselling a race entry outside the procedures authorised by the organiser is prohibited.

The use of earphones, headphones or any device that prevents a participant from hearing instructions from officials or the organiser is prohibited.

The use of a wetsuit is determined according to the water temperature and the applicable regulations on race day.

The decision regarding wetsuit use will be communicated before the start.

Photo identification may be requested when collecting the race pack.

The race number must remain clearly visible. It must be worn on the back during the bike section and on the front during the run.

All items provided by the organiser and required for timing or participant identification must be used in accordance with the instructions provided.

Timing is carried out using an electronic chip worn around the ankle.

Participants must cross all timing points and complete the entire course in order to be included in the results.

  • No timing chip: timing is not possible.
  • Lost timing chip: timing cannot be guaranteed.
  • Incomplete course: participant will not be ranked.

Participants must comply with the opening and closing times of the transition area as well as all instructions given by officials.

The helmet must be fastened before any handling of the bike and must remain fastened until the bike has been returned to its designated position.

Mount and dismount lines must be strictly observed.

Participants must comply with traffic regulations and follow all instructions given by marshals, officials and the organiser throughout the bike section.

Middle Distance: drafting is prohibited. The drafting zone is set at 20 metres.

Every participant must ride in a manner that ensures their own safety and that of other competitors.

Aid stations are provided along the courses. They offer drinks and nutritional products suitable for endurance exercise.

Outside assistance is prohibited except within the areas and conditions specified by the organiser.

Each participant must carry enough water and nutrition to reach the next aid station.

Deliberately discarding waste on the course is prohibited.

Participants must use only the areas designated by the organiser for waste disposal.

Deliberately discarding waste outside the authorised zones may result in disqualification.

To be considered a finisher, participants must complete the entire course within the specified time limits.

Middle Distance:

  • Exit T1: maximum 1 hour 30 minutes after the individual start.
  • Exit T2: maximum 5 hours 30 minutes after the individual start.
  • Start of the final run lap before 5:15 PM.

The final cut-off times applicable to the other races will be communicated in the athlete information for the 2026 edition.

The organiser may modify the cut-off times for safety or weather reasons, or at the request of the relevant authorities.

Emergency response teams and medical support are present throughout the event.

Doctors and first-aid personnel are authorised to stop any participant they consider unfit to continue or whose condition presents a danger.

Any participant who requests assistance from a doctor or first-aid responder agrees to comply with their decision.

Any participant who withdraws from the race must inform the organiser to prevent unnecessary search operations from being initiated.

Except in a medical emergency, withdrawal must be reported to a member of the organising team or at a designated checkpoint.

Officials are authorised to apply the penalties provided for under the applicable regulations.

  • Yellow card: stop & go.
  • Blue card: time penalty.
  • Red card: disqualification.

The following may result in a penalty:

  • failure to follow the official course;
  • failure to comply with traffic regulations;
  • failure to follow instructions from officials or marshals;
  • unauthorised outside assistance;
  • discarding waste outside designated areas;
  • disrespectful behaviour towards volunteers, officials or members of the organising team;
  • refusal to comply with a medical decision or anti-doping control.

For safety reasons, the organiser reserves the right to modify the courses, schedules, aid stations or race procedures.

In the event of adverse weather conditions or circumstances affecting participant safety, the race may be modified, interrupted, postponed or cancelled.

The organiser holds insurance covering the consequences of its civil liability under the conditions provided for by the applicable regulations.

Each participant is strongly advised to have personal accident insurance, particularly covering bodily injury.

The organiser accepts no responsibility for the loss, theft or damage of participants' personal belongings.

Only participants who complete the entire course in accordance with the applicable regulations will be included in the rankings.

  • DNS: Did Not Start.
  • DNF: Did Not Finish.
  • DSQ: Disqualified.

Award and Prize Money arrangements applicable to the 2026 edition are presented on the dedicated pages of the website.

Protests must be submitted in writing in accordance with the conditions and deadlines set out in the applicable regulations.

Any participant may be subject to anti-doping control. Refusal to undergo a control will result in the consequences provided for under the applicable regulations.

By participating, each competitor authorises the organiser and its authorised parties to use their name, image, voice and sporting performance in connection with the communication and promotion of the event, within the limits of applicable legislation.

Personal data collected as part of registration is processed in accordance with the applicable personal data protection regulations.
